Nth Man the Ultimate Ninja #13

This June 1990 issue of Nth Man the Ultimate Ninja serves up one of the more audaciously playful covers of the series, with a massive, grinning red-helmeted figure dominating the frame — crowing via speech bubble, "I'm pretty impressive in my Galactus mode, huh?" — while a small, smoke-wreathed figure stands atop a silver disc in the palm of his hand and two enormous bloodshot eyes loom ominously in the background. The cover art by Ron Wagner (pencils) and Bob McLeod (inks) strikes a delightful balance between cosmic-scale menace and genuine self-aware humor. With a story titled "The Shaggy Dog from Beyond Uranus!" and this wonderfully absurd cover image, issue #13 makes a strong case that Nth Man had a real knack for keeping readers thoroughly off-balance.
