Part of Dark Dragon Books' "Les Univers de Stefan Wul" line, this 2015 third volume of Niourk carries the striking subtitle "Alpha" — and Olivier Vatine's cover art makes an immediate impression. A massive, pale creature — somewhere between reptilian and otherworldly — looms in profile within a luminous green containment vessel, a small human figure visible curled within or beneath it, all set against a deep cosmic blue punctuated by constellation-like networks of light.
