Nightwing #85
This November 2003 issue of DC's Nightwing wraps up the two-part "Did Not Shoot the Deputy" with a striking cover by J. H. Williams III — a moody purple-and-crimson composition that sets Nightwing looming large above a circled inset portrait of a grinning, silver-haired man clutching what appears to be a bat or club, bats swirling through the night air around them both. The bold graphic design and limited color palette give the cover a real sense of menace, letting the contrast between Nightwing's steely focus and the antagonist's unsettling smile do all the dramatic work. With Devin Grayson writing and Mike Lilly on interior art, this is a solid chapter in Dick Grayson's ongoing solo adventures in Blüdhaven.
