Nightcrawler tries to save Barney Franks who has spontaneously combusted after arriving at the Dakota to confront Dr. Childs about the deaths of thirteen children under his care. Since the flames appear mystic in origin, Kurt travels to Limbo to ask Amanda Sefton for help. She tips him off that the knotted rope that young Seth Walker clings to may be the very thing that is keeping him from speaking. Kurt again interviews Seth and makes progress until Childs shows up with Seth's "aunt" and sends Nightcrawler away. Nurse Palmer shows Kurt that the bodies of the victims have turned to ash.
