New Funnies #96

This cheerful February 1945 Dell anthology brings together a delightful roster of cartoon favorites — Woody Woodpecker, Raggedy Andy, Li'l Eight Ball, Raggedy Ann, and Oswald — all spotlighted along the left side of the cover. Center stage belongs to a grinning panda character clutching a large number "4" while a bright orange rooster peeks out from between the oversized numerals, the whole scene radiating the warm, playful energy that made New Funnies a ten-cent treat for young readers of the era. With cover art by Dan Gormley, this issue is a charming snapshot of mid-1940s funny-animal comics at their most inviting.
