Woody Woodpecker sits dazed on the sidewalk beside a fire alarm box — stars spinning around him — while a uniformed officer looms over him with an expression that suggests the bird has gotten himself into yet another fine mess. Dell's New Funnies #103 from September 1945 also spotlights a charming roster of characters along the left margin: Raggedy Ann, Li'l Eight Ball, Homer Pigeon, Oswald, and Raggedy Andy, hinting at a packed anthology of fun. With writer John Stanley and artist/inker Dan Gormley on the book, there's plenty of warmhearted cartoon mischief to be found inside for just a dime.
