New Exiles #2
This collection continues the reality-hopping saga of the New Exiles, a team assembled by the mutant Sage to prevent the collapse of the multiverse. In 'Soul Awakening,' the team faces new threats and personal challenges, with Betsy Braddock (Psylocke) playing a key role as they navigate alternate realities and confront the consequences of their mission. The volume collects issues #7-12 of the 2008 series, written by Chris Claremont with art by various artists.
In "The War Day Part 1," the Exiles find themselves caught in a fractured reality where England and France are locked in a brutal conflict. As Mystiq and Rogue race to protect a young prince from assassins, the rest of the team faces a dire choice: battle Havok or risk the life of England’s queen. Psylocke’s sudden visions of China and her counterpart’s death at the hands of Slaymaster send her on a desperate journey, while Cat watches in dread as realities flicker and vanish. Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Tom Grummett, with colors by Wil Quintana and letters by Tom Orzechowski, this issue features a striking cover by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer.
In "The War Day Part 1," the Exiles find themselves caught in a war-torn alternate England, where a tense conflict between England and France escalates into chaos. As Mystiq and Rogue race to protect a young prince from assassins, Havok clashes with the team in a deadly standoff that puts the queen’s life on the line. Meanwhile, Psylocke’s sudden visions of China and her eerie connection to the Lady Mandarin lead her on a desperate journey—only to discover her counterpart already dead at the hands of Slaymaster. Back at the crystal palace, Cat watches in dread as realities flicker and vanish, one by one.
In "Soul Awakening Part 2," Psylocke faces Ogun as she uncovers the terrifying truth that Slaymaster is hunting down and killing her counterparts across realities. Meanwhile, Gambit and Storm lead a daring assault against the French navy with aid from Fen and the Atlanteans, while Rogue, Mystiq, and Morph shield the English queen and her son—turning to Emma Frost for answers. Back at the Crystal Palace, Cat watches in silence as realities flicker and vanish.
In "Soul Awakening Part 3," Rogue, Mystiq, and Gambit join Emma Frost’s young Force-X team as the French navy looms in the harbor, threatening to unleash devastation. With the Queen preparing to surrender and Ogun pushing Psylocke to her limits in training, tensions rise as the group faces an imminent crisis.
In "Soul Awakening Part 4: Cry for Freedom!", the Exiles and Force-X launch a daring assault on a French fleet anchored in harbor, only to face fierce resistance from superhuman forces. When Psylocke is sent to Napoleon as a gift from Ogun, she must confront her programming and make a choice that could alter the course of history.
In "The Killing Field," Sabretooth confronts the horrifying truth that Slaymaster has assembled a lethal trio to hunt down every version of Psylocke across the multiverse. Tracking them to their home reality, he steps into a deadly game where even his savage instincts may not be enough to survive.
