Steve Gerber's offbeat Vertigo series continues with issue #2, and Phil Winslade's cover makes an immediate impression: a massive, looming giant figure dominates the sky above three small figures scrambling on a rooftop below — a uniformed officer with a gun, a young woman, and another companion facing what appears to be a tiny creature. The sheer scale contrast between the colossal being overhead and the vulnerable trio beneath it captures exactly the kind of surreal, unsettling tone that made Vertigo's 1998 lineup so distinctive. With Winslade's fluid painted style and Steve Leialoha's inks lending the whole scene a dreamlike unease, this is a visually arresting chapter in what promises to be a wonderfully strange six-issue run.
