猫奥 [Neko Oku] #6

A large, imperious white-and-grey cat dominates the foreground of this gorgeous cover, lounging regally on rich red cushions while elaborately dressed figures in formal Edo-period court attire — including what appears to be a noblewoman and a dignitary seated on an ornate dais — look on in the background. The soft, delicate color-pencil style by series creator Yamumura Tō gives the whole scene a warmth that perfectly balances the comedy of a cat presiding over such stately company. Volume 6 of Neko-Oku continues to make the case that life in the shogun's inner chambers is best observed through feline eyes.
