Navy War Heroes #4
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains multiple naval war stories. "The Captain's Curse" depicts Captain Huddleston at Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack, where he commanded a ship that was sunk; months later, commanding a light cruiser in the Southwest Pacific, his luck runs out again when the enemy sinks his new vessel. "He Never Fired a Gun" follows a sailor in the engine room of a fighting ship who, despite being in the thick of combat, never operates a weapon himself, yet contributes vitally to naval victory. A third story features the USS Waltham, an armed trawler that uses a navigable channel through shallow waters and a Korean fisherman's chart to outmaneuver and sink an enemy vessel threatening a patrol boat.
In "The Captain's Curse," a disgruntled officer, passed over for command of a new carrier, dies after cursing the ship—leaving his crew to grapple with the ship's reputation and prove it's more than just a vessel of ill omen.
