Navy War Heroes is an anthology featuring at least two stories: the first recounts Fishhead Brady and Rasmussen's harrowing escape from a Japanese-held harbor, where they must help their fellow sailors survive enemy fire and grenades while awaiting rescue; the second follows Kendall during an invasion fleet operation, where he serves as a tank lighter coxswain and participates in the crucial transport and landing of combat troops, while also contending with Japanese kamikaze attacks and the dangers of enemy resistance on the invasion beaches.
