Mutations #2
The second episode of Mutations arrives with one of the most arresting images in recent French bande dessinée: a dark submarine gliding through icy Arctic waters while a whole pod of orcas swarms across its hull, their striking black-and-white forms clustering over the vessel in an eerily purposeful display. The cover art by Fred Simon — pencils and inks both — balances the cold, pale-blue expanse of the polar seascape against the sleek mass of the sub to quietly unsettling effect. With Leo and Corine Jamar co-writing and the full Simon team bringing the visuals to life, this 2020 Dargaud release promises a science-fiction world where the boundary between the natural and the engineered feels genuinely, compellingly strange.
