Volume 4 of Nokuto Koike's Mushroom presents an arresting close-up of a dark-haired young man, his pale, intense eyes staring out from the cover while golden, root-like mycelium tendrils creep across the lower half of his face. The tension between his almost serene expression and the encroaching fungal growth makes for a genuinely unsettling image. Published by Komikku Éditions in 2018, this French edition continues what looks to be a visually distinctive and atmospheric manga series.
