Volume 11 of Nagamu Nanaji's Moving Forward arrives from Éditions Akata with a cover that perfectly captures the series' quiet, contemplative heart — a young girl in a striped shirt and jeans walks alone down a peaceful residential street, her back to us as she moves ahead into the familiar slopes and greenery of a Japanese neighborhood. There's something genuinely moving about that simple image: one small figure, an open road, and all the everyday courage that implies. A lovely addition to this understated, deeply human manga series.
