Ichiru sets out to save his fiance Hakkou who was taken by monsters from his village. The monsters and spirits are the agents of the demon Epsilon. While Ichiru's sword can kill the monsters it has no affect on the spirits. Mortem Brand is the "sword of death" and its weilder. When Mortem Brand is killed by Epsilon Ichiru picks up the sword and the mantel of Mortem Brand is passed to him. He then kills Episilon/Hakkou because she had been possessed by Episilon.
