Moonshadow #4

Muth's watercolor cover for this fourth installment of DC/Vertigo's twelve-part series is a genuinely lovely piece of work — a figure in purple suit and goggles soars through a misty sky, arms outstretched as they grip the poles of a wide glider, while a dark bat-winged shape wheels through the clouds above. The dreamy, painterly atmosphere that J. M. DeMatteis and Muth brought to Moonshadow is fully on display here, hinting at adventure and whimsy in equal measure. "Book Four: The Hoofs of Wrath" promises another chapter of this beautifully crafted 1994 series that continues to set itself apart from anything else on the stands.
