Monte Hale discovers that a man named Riggs is using morse code at a roulette wheel to send messages to someone outside, leading to an investigation where Monte learns that Riggs and corrupt deputies have framed Jim McQuade and are planning to send a bribe message to a U.S. Marshal in the capital. When Monte patrols the gambling hall and spots Wade Denton, he becomes suspicious that Denton may be involved in the scheme. The issue also includes a separate story featuring Doc Gadgett and his "Cactus Cooker" invention, which allows cowboys to prepare fresh beef stew in the desert by filling the device with cactus and water, cooking it for half an hour.
