Monde Futur #9
In "L'arme qui avalait les hommes," Adam Strange faces a terrifying new threat on Rann when alien invaders deploy vacuumizers that disintegrate entire armies into gas. With only nine days to devise a strategy, Adam returns to a transformed Rann—where the Ranagarians have been restored but their city, Ranagar, is gone—and discovers the key to countering the weapon lies in exploiting its limitation: it affects only one element at a time. Written by Gardner Fox and illustrated by Carmine Infantino, with inks by Murphy Anderson, this 1973 issue from Monde Futur #9 blends tense sci-fi peril with clever tactical ingenuity. The cover, by Murphy Anderson, captures the stark, otherworldly dread of the alien threat.

When Adam Strange beams to Rann, Alanna tells him that aliens demand Rann's surrender. At dawn, Adam leads an army against the aliens, but they use their vacuumizers to turn the army into gas. When Adam materializes on Earth, he has nine days to form a plan. Returning to Rann, Adam finds Ranagar gone, but the Ranagarians restored. Realizing the vaccumizers only affect one element at a time, Adam has the Ranagarians cover themselves in several different metals so they can get close enough to the aliens to defeat them in hand-to-hand combat. The aliens surrender and leave without their weapons.
