Fay is engaged to Jimmy, but he has to run an errand so she asks her neighbor Bill to drive her to a dance that night, planning to meet Jimmy there. A storm washes out the bridge, forcing Bill and Fay to spend the night in a rental cabin; Bill’s friend Joe is also stuck, so he chaperones them. They pass the night playing chess. The next day, an angry Jimmy insults Fay and she breaks their engagement; Bill’s girlfriend also dumps him over the scandal. Bill and Fay get engaged and he confesses that he made up the story of the bridge being washed out so she’d break up with Jimmy.
