It had always been springtime with Alec and Julie ever since they had been old enough to fall in love. But over the past week, a grey shadow would briefly cross Alec's face that made Julie think something was wrong. Then one evening, she went downstairs to overhear her mum say to Alec, "...her last birthday... the last she'll ever have... and you made it so perfect for her...do you think she's any idea..." After the initial shock, Julie realizes she needs to pretend she hadn't overheard.
