Sally can't stand the grime of the coal mines and slagheaps of her home town, so she leaves Minebridge. She gets a job working for an author in a big country house. After a few weeks she knows she is falling for her new boss. When he asks her to marry him she agrees. Sally goes back to Minebridge to tell her mum about her plans, but before she can say anything her mum tells her there has been a roof fall at the coal mine. Sally immediately runs down to the coal mine to check on Martin and realizes that her true happiness is in Martin's arms.
