Miniature Jesus #2
Ted McKeever's singular vision is on full display in this second issue from Image/Shadowline, rendered in brooding ink-washed blues and blacks that feel like a fever dream pressed onto paper. The cover confronts you with two massive, grotesque figures — a hollow-eyed, bloated creature cradling a tiny human form, and a fang-mouthed shadow-beast looming behind it, while a small silhouetted figure stands defiantly atop the chaos. McKeever's raw, textural line work, deepened by Dana Moreshead's cold, spectral color palette, makes this 2013 series one of the most visually unsettling and genuinely arresting things to come out of the Shadowline imprint.
