Midnighter and Apollo #5

The penultimate chapter of this 2017 six-issue DC miniseries delivers a striking cover by ACO: a towering armored figure dominates the foreground, dangling a masked head in one hand while a glowing, radiant figure — Apollo — charges forward defiantly through a hellish, fiery landscape far below. The scale and composition say everything about the odds stacked against these two heroes, and the tension crackling across this image makes issue five feel genuinely hard to put down. Steve Orlando, Fernando Blanco, and Romulo Fajardo Jr. bring their considerable talents to the interiors, making this one of DC's more compelling romance-and-action series of 2017.
