Mickey and Donald: Fantastic Futures #[nn]
In "Lonesome Ghosts in the Machine," Mickey, Donald, and Goofy join the futuristic fire department of Mouseton Oaks, where trees and technology intertwine, only to be dismissed as rookies and handed an outdated ground vehicle. When their mundane patrol takes a dangerous turn, they face off against Peg-Leg Pete, who wields a living fire-sprite as a weapon—its sudden escape sending flames spiraling through the city. Written by Francesco Artibani, Carlo Panaro, and Joe Torcivia, with art by Donald Soffritti and colors by Licinia Tozzi, this 2023 Fantagraphics issue blends whimsy and tension in a world where the line between nature and machine blurs. Cover by Arancia Studio.

Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are the newest fire department recruits of Mouseton Oaks, a futuristic city in which trees and technology have merged in function. As rookies, our pals are disrespected by Mortimer and the other firefighters. So much so that, in an era of flying fire engines, they are given an old ground vehicle. Mickey urges his pals to make the best of it, as they do their mundane duties. However, things heat up when they run afoul of Peg-Leg Pete burning his way into a safe using a living "fire-sprite" as a torch-like tool. The scared sprite breaks free setting fires everywhere.
