Ted McKeever's Meta4 continues its promised "5-issue allegorical series in black & white" with this second chapter, "Asunder the Boardwalk." The cover, rendered entirely by McKeever, presents a lean, shirtless figure standing with quiet unease before what appears to be a subway train, the whole image layered over fragmented transit maps that give it an unsettling urban dreamscape quality. McKeever's scratchy, expressive linework — touched with deep reds against the monochrome — makes this one of 2010's more genuinely atmospheric covers on the Image lineup.
