Dargaud Benelux launches this 2021 Belgian-Dutch series with a cover that puts you right in the thick of it: a female combat medic in full tactical gear crouches over a wounded soldier in a desert combat zone, while armored vehicles and a military helicopter fill the sky behind her amid bursts of gunfire. Artist Gilles Laplagne renders the tension and urgency with sharp, grounded detail — the dust, the equipment, the split-second focus on the medic's face all speak to a series serious about the human cost of warfare. "Levenslijn" ("Lifeline") promises a story where saving lives under fire is the mission, and this opening issue looks like a compelling place to start.
