Mechanism #5

Raffaele Ienco's rain-soaked cover for this 2016 Image series delivers a striking image: a goggled figure in a tactical suit strides forward through the downpour, flanked by massive, glowing-eyed mechs whose bulk and orange-and-red sensor lights lend the scene an air of uneasy alliance — or impending threat. The sheer scale of the hulking machines against the lone human figure makes for a compelling visual contrast, rendered entirely by Ienco, who handles every aspect of the book from writing to lettering to line art. Mechanism #5 is a fine showcase for one creator's fully realized sci-fi vision.
