Ce premier volume de la célèbre bande dessinée de Art Spiegelman, 'Maus : Un survivant raconte', adapte en français le récit autobiographique de l'auteur. Il relate l'histoire de son père, Vladek, un Juif polonais survivant de l'Holocauste, à travers des entretiens dans les années 1970, tout en montrant les tensions dans leur relation contemporaine. Le livre utilise une métaphore anthropomorphique où les Juifs sont représentés par des souris et les nazis par des chats, et couvre la période allant de l'avant-guerre à l'emprisonnement à Auschwitz, bien que ce tome se concentre sur les années précédant la déportation.

As the Nazis launch a sweeping roundup of Jews in the city, Vladek and Anja narrowly secure permission to stay—just barely—amid a growing tide of terror.
In "La souricière," Vladek and Anja cling to hope as they hide in Sosnowiec and Szopienice, relying on the kindness of strangers. When smugglers offer a dangerous escape route to Hungary—a place thought safer for Jews—their fragile survival hangs on a single, perilous decision.
