☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe issue contains two main stories. "Bushwhacked Romance" features the Masked Raider and his horse White Star encountering Polly Garrett, whom he had admired long ago; after bushwhackers attack them, the Raider must rescue her and confront the outlaws. "Shooting Sam Smith" is a prose feature recounting the true story of a man claiming to be the notorious outlaw Shooting Sam, a case of mistaken identity that leads to gunplay and eventual resolution with the sheriff's involvement.
When the Masked Raider discovers his companions—the eagle Talon and his horse White Star—have been captured, he sets out to rescue them and uncover who's behind the scheme. Sheriff Garrett falls into a trap laid by the seemingly respectable rancher Claude Railton, who's secretly running a rustling operation and wants the Masked Raider captured to clear his own path. The Masked Raider must outmaneuver both the law and the criminals to free his allies and expose Railton's criminal enterprise.
When Polly Garrett finally arranges a secret meeting with the Masked Raider, the man she's long admired, she's ambushed by the vicious Pip Younger and his brothers—forcing the masked avenger to fight off the entire gang to keep her safe. As the dust settles and the brothers are hauled off to jail, Polly begins to suspect there's more to the enigmatic Masked Raider than meets the eye.
A fevered Texas Ranger arrives in outlaw territory with a warrant for the ruthless Hub Downes, only to find himself shot down and left for dead—yet the very outlaws he's sworn to capture decide his life is worth saving. As Con Reardon recovers from his wounds, he discovers that taking Downes back to trial will require more than just his badge and his gun.
The Masked Raider uncovers evidence that Hayes Albert is the real rustler behind a frame-up against an innocent man—but when the truth comes out in court, Albert escapes the law's grasp. Now, as the frontier vigilante works to track down the outlaw before he vanishes completely, the stakes climb dangerously high when Albert and his gang turn the tables and capture their pursuer. With his loyal horse White Star and eagle Talon fighting at his side, the Masked Raider must battle his way free—all while his mild-mannered lawyer identity, Les Wilcox, tries to navigate a complication of the heart with the sheriff's daughter.
