Marvel Zombies Supreme #1

The opening issue of this 2011 five-part limited series wastes no time setting a grim, visceral tone — Michael Komarck's painted cover presents a trio of grotesquely decayed zombie superheroes looming out of a hellish, ember-lit landscape. Front and center is a ravaged figure in Iron Man's armor, flanked by a cloaked, bat-cowled zombie and a blazing, undead form that appears to channel fire, all rendered with unsettling realism. It's a fittingly dark launch for a series that turns Marvel's mightiest against everything they once stood for.
