“Trial and Error!”

The cover of this January 1980 issue says it all: the Thing clutches two terrified civilians on the side of a skyscraper — identified as the World Trade Center — while smoke and flames billow around them and the Human Torch streaks through the air below in a trail of fire, all under the blazing tagline "Towering Infernos!" Bob Budiansky's pencils and Chic Stone's inks make the vertiginous drop to the street below genuinely nerve-wracking, with tiny cars far beneath the heroes lending real scale to the danger. With Marv Wolfman and Ralph Macchio on the script and a Marvel Two-in-One team-up pairing Ben Grimm with Johnny Storm, this one has all the ingredients for a gripping rescue thriller.
