“And One Shall Die”

In "And One Shall Die," Stan Lee and Gene Colan deliver a tense, pulse-pounding tale where Namor’s mind is tormented by unseen forces as the Secret Empire’s Number One manipulates him through hidden devices in his ears. Meanwhile, the Hulk, fleeing the chaos of the city, climbs toward a skyscraper’s penthouse—unaware that Number One has set a trap, hoping to gain fame by watching the Hulk die in a blast that ultimately backfires in a shocking twist. Bill Everett’s dynamic pencils and inks bring the action to life on both the interior pages and the cover, capturing the high stakes and escalating danger.

Namor suffers extreme pain in his head, unaware that Number One of the Secret Empire has activated devices in his ears, in an effort to control him so he can kill the Hulk for him. Meanwhile Hulk, trying to get away from crowds and police, climbs a skyscraper and approaches the penthouse lair of Number One. The Secret Empire leader sets a bomb to go off when Hulk enters, thereby giving him the fame that he seeks when Hulk dies. The bomb goes off, Hulk is unhurt, but Number One is caught in the blast when his robe gets caught in the door as he closes it.
