Marvel Masterworks: The Sub-Mariner #1
A landmark issue in the Sub-Mariner’s legacy, *The Sub-Mariner* #1 (2002) kicks off with Namor clashing against the towering Behemoth, his underwater kingdom hanging in the balance. Written by Stan Lee and brought to life by Gene Colan’s dynamic art and Dick Ayers’ sharp inks, the story sees Krang manipulate the beast through a puppet, only for Namor to overcome it—until Krang strikes a devastating personal blow by threatening Atlantis and demanding Lady Dorma’s hand in marriage. The cover, a classic Kirby design with Mike Esposito’s inks, captures the epic scale of the conflict.

Namor battles the Behemoth with the fate of Atlantis hanging in the balance. Krang has Puppet Master build a puppet of the Behemoth so he can control the creature mentally. Even under Krang's control, Namor is able to beat the monster. Krang snatches victory from defeat, however, when he shows up in Atlantis and informs the Lady Dorma that he will use the puppet to bring the Behemoth back unless she agrees to marry him.
