The issue ends with Kraven sealing himself in a coffin, shotgun in hand—leaving his fate unknown. Written by J. M. DeMatteis and illustrated by Mike Zeck with inks by Bob McLeod and colors by Janet Jackson, the cover by Mike Zeck and Bob McLeod captures the moment with chilling intensity.

Spider-Man finally catches up with Kraven. The Hunter claims that by "killing" and burying Spidey and putting on his costume to replace him, Kraven has proven himself the superior being. Kraven refuses to battle the web slinger but takes him down to an underground cave where he pits Spidey against Vermin. With Vermin winning the fight, Kraven stops him from killing Spider-Man and lets him run off. Kraven promises that he will never hunt again and sends Spidey out to track down Vermin.
