Martian Manhunter Annual #2

Part of DC's 1999 "JLApe: Gorilla Warfare!" crossover event, this annual pits J'onn J'onzz against a very bad day — the cover by Arthur Adams shows a snarling, cape-wearing Gorilla Grodd standing triumphant atop a pile of ape-transformed DC heroes, including recognizable figures in Superman's, Batman's, and Green Lantern's costumes, while the Martian Manhunter himself looms large in the center, red-X chest insignia blazing. The tagline "The Wrath of Grodd!" leaves little doubt about who's calling the shots on this one. With Len Kaminski writing and Gus Vazquez on interior art, it's a wild, imaginative entry in a crossover that clearly had a lot of fun with its premise.
