When the bug-eyed Martian invaders set their sights on Earth, it's the heroes of Image Comics who stand in their way. This December 1996 crossover pits a red-haired heroine in a green-and-white bodysuit against the alien onslaught atop a crumbling city rooftop, while Martian creatures close in from both sides, flying saucers darken a lurid sky, and a cluster of caped and armored figures holds the high ground behind her. Andy Smith's pencils and Bill Sienkiewicz's inks give the chaos a beautifully rough energy — explosions, debris, and swarming saucers filling every corner of the frame.
