Mars Attacks #5

Issue five of Dynamite's Mars Attacks closes out its run with a cover that puts one of those grotesquely familiar Martian skulls front and center — exposed brain, hollow white eyes, and a blood-smeared jaw filling nearly the entire frame, flanked by the ominous words "START" and "END." The unsettling close-up treatment gives the image an almost portraiture-like intensity, a fitting punctuation mark for a series built on pulpy, gleeful menace. Kyle Starks and Chris Schweizer's story reaches its finale here, and Anthony Marques's cover art makes sure you feel the weight of that ending before you even open the cover.
