Mars Attacks #1
IDW's Mars Attacks relaunches in 2012 with a cover that captures everything gloriously unsettling about these bug-eyed invaders: a grinning Martian in armored green suit strides forward triumphantly, ray gun raised, as flying saucers streak overhead against a looming red Mars and a cityscape going up in flames below. The cover art — pencils and inks by Norman Saunders — channels the lurid energy of classic sci-fi pulp with real conviction. Writer John Layman and artist John McCrea kick things off with the tantalizing promise of "First Contact! First Carnage!" — a title that sets the tone perfectly for what looks to be a wonderfully chaotic alien invasion story.
