Schiller disobeys his second lieutenant, who shoots him. As he falls, he remembers how he joined up in 1914 and the early victories Germany enjoyed before events transpired against them. When a Marine spared his life once Schiller spared him in return. Reviving from his injury, Schiller finds himself lying in a hospital. The lieutenant brought him, but only because a Marine forced him to.
