Marilyn #5 November 1960
In "Jungle Girl," Litana faces a pivotal moment as she prepares to marry a man chosen by her father-in-the-heart, a man who, despite his reluctance, honors tradition by accepting the match. Though raised in the wild, she’s unprepared for the quiet defiance of Drew, who slips into her bridal hut the night before the ceremony, offering her a choice that could change everything. Written by Derek Long and illustrated with striking detail by Carlos Freixas, this issue captures a moment of tension and quiet rebellion, with Freixas also handling the inks. The cover by Carlos Freixas sets the scene with a haunting, evocative image of Litana at the edge of the jungle, caught between two worlds.

Litana meets the groom her father-in-the-heart has chosen for her. She discovers he knows the ways of white people, having studied in Singapore and London. Although it is not the way he would choose to find a wife, he will not bring dishonour on her father and have his own people say he is too proud to live as they do. On the night before her wedding, Litana is led to the bridal hut where she is to spend the night in darkness. But she finds Drew has smuggled himself into the hut and wants her to come away with him.
