Jim stands up Gwen because he has to work, building a road before the frost comes. But Gwen was stood up twice the previous week and decides to go to the dance with Fred. She soon realizes that Jim is twice the man Fred is. Then one afternoon, she hears that the road tunnel they were building had caved in and some men were trapped. Gwen rushes to the site to check on Jim only to discover him being taken out on a stretcher. But when he recovers in the hospital, they get a second chance.
