Manifest Destiny #46 wraps up its landmark 30th-anniversary year for Image Comics with one of the series' most visually playful covers yet — rendered in a delightful golden-age cartoon style "after Chuck Jones," as the cover itself notes. A blonde figure in a colonial military coat recoils dramatically on a grassy hillside while a fierce, blue creature in a pink dress leaps down from a towering stone arch above, claws at the ready, against a backdrop of jagged icy peaks and rainbow light. Matthew Roberts and Owen Gieni bring a surprising warmth and wit to this confrontation that will make long-time fans of Chris Dingess's series do a very satisfying double-take.
