While inspecting a dead body related to his investigation, Nathan discovers some live plant material within it. Nathan is referred to swamp elder Pete Horn, who may have more information on the talisman Nathan found at the vandalism site. Horn tells Nathan that Schist has encroached on sacred tribal land and that in time he will be rooted out. After learning from Pete that the talisman belongs to their chief Ted Sallis, Nathan meets Man-Thing face to face.
