The opening volume of Malefosse arrives with an immediately striking cover: a cloaked, wide-brimmed-hat rider charges through a bleak, snow-covered landscape on horseback, bare winter trees framing the scene in near-monochrome. The title L'Escorte promises a journey through cold and danger, and the muted palette by Dermaut and Gelot gives this French historical series a brooding, cinematic atmosphere from the very first page. Published by Glénat in 2007, this is a compelling introduction to what looks like a richly atmospheric adventure set against a forbidding winter backdrop.
