Volume 8 of Masayuki Ishikawa's Madowanai Hoshi presents a striking cover: a young woman in an elaborate purple ruffled dress strikes a coy, finger-to-lips pose while a constellation of oddly expressive, rounded stone-like faces drifts around her against a plain white background. The contrast between her ornate, almost theatrical costume and those blank, enigmatic floating visages gives the whole image a quietly surreal charm. Published under Kōdansha's Morning KC imprint, this volume is a fine addition to one of manga's more distinctive and thoughtful series.
