The third volume of Soleil's Médicis series arrives in 2017 with "Jules — De l'or à la croix," and Kyko Duarte's cover sets an appropriately grand stage: a robed, bearded man in a deep red cloak stands before a sweeping Renaissance skyline unmistakably dominated by Florence's great cathedral dome. The figure's composed, almost meditative bearing hints at a story caught between worldly power and spiritual weight — gold and the cross, just as the subtitle promises. With Olivier Peru's script brought to life by Lucio Leoni, Emanuela Negrin, and colorist Élodie Jacquemoire, this chapter of the Medici saga looks like richly researched historical comics at their most absorbing.
