Semic Press, founded in Sweden in 1963 as a contraction of 'Series and Comics,' grew into the dominant Scandinavian comics publisher under the Bonnier Group umbrella after 1973, with a Norwegian sister company (Semic A/S) handling that market. Lucky Luke had been appearing in Semic's Norwegian catalogue since at least 1977, when a numbered album series launched; by 1982 the line was well established. The 1982 Semic series likely reflects either a relaunched numbering or a parallel Swedish-market edition running alongside the Norwegian one, both drawing content from the Dargaud/Lucky Comics French album catalogue. Morris himself, the Belgian creator of Lucky Luke, had by 1982 been working without Goscinny for five years and was collaborating with writers including Bob de Groot, Michel Greg, and Martin Lodewijk to continue the series.
