"Confessions of the Lovelorn" is an anthology issue featuring two romantic stories. The first, "The Wrong Side of the Tracks," follows a woman who fell in love with a man named David from a poor background, only to discover his deception when he tried to rob her jewelry and force her into marriage in a tenement. The second story examines the destructive nature of pride in relationships, presenting cases including one involving a woman named Beatrice who rejected a man due to class differences, and another involving a couple named Bob and Karen whose pride nearly caused them to break up before they reconciled and committed to a better treatment of one another.

But her dreams of romance are complicated by Joe, a loyal local boy who's been by her side, and by the growing realization that David may not know the truth about who she really is. As Theresa navigates between two worlds and two very different loves, she discovers that the distance between them runs deeper than just the railroad tracks that divide their town.

What Price Pride?
3 pp · Romance

A marriage counselor examines how pride—whether born from vanity, stubbornness, or wounded dignity—can derail romance in "What Price Pride?" by exploring several cautionary tales of couples torn apart by their own self-regard. Through these snapshots, we see how unchecked conceit and refusal to compromise can transform promising relationships into heartbreak, though finding the right balance between self-respect and humility might just offer another way forward.

When an idealistic teacher arrives in the backward hills of Cullen County determined to bring education and reason to a violence-ridden community, he never expects to fall for Clarabelle Denfield, an eager student hungry for learning—but her protective, feuding family has other plans. As their secret lessons transform into something deeper, Alan Hickey finds himself caught between his mission and his heart, facing a choice that might cost him everything. Written by the creative team behind this 1954 romance, "Readin' Writin' and Romance!" explores what happens when education and love collide in a place where tradition and honor run as deep as the mountains themselves.
