After the death of her invalid, reclusive father, Wilma travels to New York and meets Gil, but he’s a fortune-hunter. She next falls in love with Clinton, who's a gambler and loses all of her savings. Wilma works as a receptionist for Warren, who proposes marriage. Warren’s ex-girlfriend Marilyn exposes Wilma’s “sordid” past and he thinks Wilma is after his money. Wilma follows Warren and Marilyn on an ocean cruise to explain but their ship hits an iceberg. Marilyn saves herself, leaving Wilma and a trapped Warren behind. Wilma helps rescue Warren and he realizes she’s sincere.
