Stella is the confidential secretary to lawyer Don who prefers to help people rather than make a lot of money. They fall in love but Stella says he can’t support them both. Don promises to earn more, but he continues to fight for the underdogs. Stella arranges for Don to defend racketeer Steve but Don refuses to take the case. They break up and Stella dates Steve. Steve proposes marriage but asks Stella first to plead with a witness against him in an upcoming case: Stella finds the man dead and is arrested for murder. Don proves Steve killed the witness himself and he and Stella reconcile.
